National Merit Scholarship LogoDouglas County School District (DCSD) is pleased to announce the names of 29 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists, making them part of an elite group representing less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors. These academically talented students advance in the competition, which awards 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million.

“I am proud of these students who represent DCSD so well,” said Superintendent Thomas S. Tucker, Ph.D. “They truly exemplify the academic accomplishments we see in all of our schools throughout the year. The National Merit Scholarship program is a true measure of incredible student success.”

The goal of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation is to honor the nation’s scholastic champions and encourage the pursuit of academic excellence. More than 1.5 million students entered the competition. Three types of National Merit Scholarships will be offered in the spring of 2020:

● 2,500 National Merit Scholarships
● 1,000 Corporate-Sponsored Merit Scholarships
● 4,100 College-Sponsored Merit Scholarships
