Early October brings to Colorado many things- autumn colors, pumpkin spice lattes, and cooler weather. From October 7-11, it also brought a love of reading to students across Douglas County as Elementary Schools celebrated Fall Literacy Week.
Douglas County School District staff visited schools to read to eager students, excited to explore new worlds in the pages of fun childrens books like We Are Welcome, We Don’t Eat Our Classmates, and The Pigeon Has to Go To School during Read Aloud sessions.
“We were excited to welcome [DCSD Transportation Director] Donna Grattino,” says Jody Robinson of Buffalo Ridge Elementary. “She was able to read to three of our classes and shared some wonderful new books with us!”
In addition to these events, several schools were also visited by a digital bookmobile, sponsored by OverDrive. This large, colorful semi truck that encourages students to read through fun, progress-tracking mobile apps.
“Our goal is to spread reading happiness,” says Digital Book Expert Marissa Gillett. “We promote literacy all year long. It’s not just a week for us.”
The digital bookmobile visited Redstone Elementary and Iron Horse Elementary during the Fall Literacy Week celebrations.
