School Capacity and Boundary Analysis

Communities within the Douglas County School District (DCSD) continue to grow, with some areas developing faster than others. With this in mind, DCSD wants to ensure we are utilizing each of our school buildings to their optimum capacity, yet minimizing the overcrowding that is currently happening or is anticipated to happen in some of our schools. The DCSD Board of Education and Long Range Planning Committee are considering several options to address overcrowding, plan for future growth, and ensure that each of our 63,000 students has access to comfortable and effective learning environments while continuing to be responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars.

The Douglas County School District (DCSD) wants to ensure we are:

  • Minimizing overcrowding
  • Providing all students with comfortable, effective learning environments

In late 2019, the School Capacity and Boundary Analysis survey was utilized as a method to gather input from our community. None of the scenarios in the survey will be implemented without research (feasibility, cost analysis, minimizing the impact on students and families, etc.), outreach opportunities (including community meetings), and approval from the DCSD Board of Education. Many items concerning this project are on hold until restrictions are lifted based on COVID-19. DCSD is currently focusing on the most urgent needs and scenarios.
