Leave of Absence and Disability

Leave of Absence
The District offers employees Leaves of Absence for time away from work to cover extenuating circumstances in an employee's life. Employees that expect to be out 10 or more consecutive work days, will need to contact the Coordinators-ADA and Leaves to discuss further action. If you are out more than 5 but less than 10 you may not need a leave. Please fill out this form - Do I need a Leave of Absence?, and the coordinators will let you know by email if you need a leave of absence and what the next steps are. Please complete the form even if you know you need a leave of absence.

Douglas County School District offers short term disability through Standard Insurance (if eligibility requirements have been met) to protect your income if you are unable to work due to your own medical condition. After a 14 calendar day waiting period and all accrued sick days are exhausted, Standard Insurance will pay a base benefit of 70% of your salary.

Colorado FAMLI (Famliy and Medical Leave Insurance)

Per the Colorado FAMLI website: Colorado voters approved Proposition 118 in November of 2020, paving the way for a state-run Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program. The FAMLI program will ensure all Colorado workers have access to paid leave in order to take care of themselves or their family during life circumstances that pull them away from their jobs — like growing their family or taking care of a loved one with a serious health condition.

Douglas County School District opted out of FAMLI.

For information on how to apply for this leave please go to  Colorado FAMLI Information. This is through the State of Colorado and not DCSD.
