Bethany Grusing graduated from Mountain Vista High School in 2016 and attended college in Fort Collins. Bethany graduated from Colorado State University in 2019 with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies.
Upon graduation, Bethany joined the Golden Police Department as a park ranger for the summer until she began the police academy in August 2019. Bethany graduated from the police academy in January 2021 and has been working as a police officer in the patrol division for the City of Golden ever since. Bethany recently became a Field Training Officer and a CIT (Crisis Intervention Training) coach.
“I’m proud of finding a career that I enjoy and that challenges me every day to be a better person. I have made lasting friendships through this job and l love serving my community,” said Bethany.
Reflecting about her high school years, Bethany said, “I always loved going to any sporting event, especially when we played our rivalry games with ThunderRidge. I loved getting to cheer on my younger brother when he played for the Mountain Vista basketball team.
“I learned that I value authentic relationships rather than fitting in with the ‘popular’ group. I had a hard time with some friendships in high school and I was able to talk to a counselor and some teachers about how to deal with that. I appreciated the support from them and the outlets the school gave me to make new friendships,” she said.
If Bethany could give her 15-year-old self advice, “I would tell myself to not stress too much about the little things. If things don't go the way you plan, there's a reason for it. Just work hard and focus on the relationships in your life that matter.”
As a police officer, Bethany needs to take good care of herself. To that end, she recently started doing CrossFit.
“It is very challenging to try and learn a whole new way of working out, but I look forward to it every day. Trying to stay on top of my physical fitness also helps out with my work and overall well-being,” she said.
Bethany plans on becoming a detective at some point in the future. Right now, she’s very content.
“I love the city I work for and I don't think there's a more beautiful place I could be than in Colorado. I hope to start a family in the future and travel as much as I can,” she said.
