DCSD Child Find is part of the district's Special Education program. It is a resource for families who are residents of Douglas County. Our Child Find teams offer developmental assessments at no charge to young children from 2 years 10 months through age 5. If they qualify for Special Education services those will be provided in one of our DCSD preschool classrooms.

Children who are kindergarten-age-eligible even if they are currently attending a private school, will want to contact their homeschool for evaluations. Once they are age-eligible for kindergarten the elementary school which is the homeschool based on your address, is the appropriate place for the assessment.

Children 2 years 10 months through their 5th year and still preschool-age eligible, may request an appointment by filling out the following DCSD Child Find Intake Form.

 IMPORTANT! READ BEFORE COMPLETING THE INTAKE FORM - three steps

1) Complete each box on the intake form, you can put n/a if needed.

2) Click the not a robot and submit button at the bottom of the form.

3) The page will then refresh to the top, scroll to the bottom again to be sure there are no red flags for missing information. The intake form will be gone if it is completed. You will receive a confirmation email a few minutes after submitting this request. If you do not receive a confirmation email within 5 minutes something is missing, please try again

Next, you will receive a follow-up email in 5-7 business days, please check your spam during this time.  This email will contain a detailed age-appropriate developmental survey. Once completed and submitted we will review it and add your child to the appropriate waiting list.

Outside Agencies

Complaints regarding violations of Title VI, (race, national origin), Title IX (sex, gender), Section 504/ADA (handicap or disability), may be filed directly with the Office for Civil Rights, U.S. Department of Education, 1244 North Speer Blvd., Suite 310, Denver, CO 80204. Complaints regarding violations of Title VII (employment) and the ADEA (prohibiting age discrimination in employment) may be filed directly with the Federal Office of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 303 E. 17th Ave., Suite 510, Denver, CO 80202, or the Colorado Civil Rights Commission, 1560 Broadway, Suite 1050, Denver, CO 80202.

NOTICE OF DESTRUCTION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION RECORDS

Special Education records which have been collected by Douglas County School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of special education in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for the period of five (5) years after special education services have ended for the student. Special education services end when the student is no longer eligible for services, graduates, or completes his/her educational program at age 21, or moves from the district. This notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of Douglas County School District's intent to destroy the special education records of students who exited special education services as of June 30, 2016. These records will be destroyed in accordance with state law unless the parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student notifies the school district otherwise. After five years, the records are no longer useful to the district, but may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student in applying for social security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance, etc. The parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student may request a copy of the records by requesting the records at this link ( Douglas County School District Transcripts and Records Requests ).
