Parents KnowIT

Technology poses a unique set of challenges to parents in the digital age. As a district at the forefront of innovative technology in the classroom, we understand the importance of knowledge about the tools and tech available to students.

On a daily basis, we field questions and feedback regarding hot topics like digital safety and citizenship, data security and privacy, and web accessibility. This page is designed to connect parents with resources and information that will provide assistance in "keeping up" with kids who are growing up in this unique age of information and technology. SchoolMessenger FAQs

Reliable and prompt emergency messaging is key for us as a district to reach parents and guardians of our students during critical incidents. Parents and guardians present many questions regarding our messaging system, so we’ve gathered the most commonly asked questions to share with you. If you have additional questions, please see the contact information at the end of the list.

Google Apps for Students

Douglas County School District is a Google Apps environment; every staff member and every student is provided an @dcsdk12.org (@s.dcsdk12.org for students) Google account. As a Google Apps for Education environment, we have a centralized management console which allows us to control what services users have access to, manageable down to the individual level. Privacy and data policies for Google Apps for Education accounts are much more stringent than standard Google accounts. You can find much more about how students use their Google accounts, security and privacy issues, and expectations of use on our Google Apps for Students page.

Personally Owned Devices

DCSD IT provides a robust, secure and filtered wireless network district-wide, enabling our schools to participate in the POD (personally owned device) initiative. Participating schools/classes allow students to bring their own electronic devices (tablets, smartphones, laptops) to supplement the learning experience.

Student Technology Trends, Web Filtering and Online Safety

Today's youth are digital natives, immersed in a world of constant contact, immediate information, and potential pitfalls that accompany technology. Knowing the current trends and practices of your children's online activity is imperative to assisting your child to stay safe online. Understanding responsible use (and consequential actions based on digital decisions) is a challenge that requires guidance. As a district, we want to help provide you links to highly informative resources, links to articles about current youth tech trends, and an understanding of what we put in place as a district to help provide a safer technology environment.

Tech Learning Opportunities

Our district and region are technology rich, a hub of innovation, and a destination for both tech entrepeneurs and established companies. We are fortunate to have an abundance of additional learning tech learning opportunities available to students within our district. Visit our Tech Learning Opportunities page to learn more about tech clubs in our district schools, regional resources and camps, and popular, effective online educational technology outlets and applications.

Express Check-In for Parents

Express Check-In is a Douglas County School District application that allows parents to update household information, sign off on district forms, update health conditions and select school fees. This application helps prevent families from manually entering in a full batch of information for numerous children in the household when checking in prior to the start of the school year.
