Welcome to Bellisimo Blu Salon and Academy at Highlands Ranch High School, operated by students enrolled in the cosmetology program.

On August 11, Highlands Ranch High School hosted a grand opening ceremony for Bellisimo Blu Salon and Academy. Those in attendance toured the salon and were able to schedule appointments for cosmetology services including haircuts, color treatments, permanent waves, facials, manicures, pedicures, and facial waxing services.

The 1,600-square-foot salon is an addition to the high school and was paid for by the 2018 voter-approved bond. The salon features professional chairs with shampoo bowls and is equipped with a wide array of industry-standard tools of the trade. Cosmetology students in training perform hair, nails, and skin care services. They practice on each other and on manikins. Approximately 80 juniors and seniors are currently enrolled in the program. Cosmetology teacher Mark Mitchell has a background in education and has been a cosmetologist for 38 years. Earlier in his career, he was an educator with the Paul Mitchell School and served as director of schools for Regency Beauty Institute, Xenon Academy, and the Avalon Institute in Colorado.

Students who complete the two-year cosmetology program will have logged 1,500 clinical hours and received 60 credits through Arapahoe Community College. They’ll take the state board and attain their state licensure. “At that point, they can pursue their career in various cosmetology settings, including starting their own business,” says Mitchell.

This is a fantastic career and technical education opportunity for students in our district, says Highlands Ranch Assistant Principal Keri Stuebinger. “Our mission is to continue to provide as many opportunities as possible for students to pursue their passions and dreams,” she said.

The cosmetology program is just one of many career and technical education programs offered throughout DCSD. Other options include automotive, robotics, fire science, and health sciences opportunities. DCSD provides a variety of career and technical education (CTE) programming to ensure all high school students have access to quality educational programs emphasizing core academic content, postsecondary and workforce readiness competencies, technical skills, and a seamless transition to further education or employment. State-approved CTE programs are taught by DCSD teachers who have received state CTE credentialing in their respective disciplines and programs.

Bellisimo Blu Salon and Academy is open to students and the public. Currently, morning appointments are available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. To book an appointment, call the student receptionist at 303.387.2533. To learn more, view this short video.
