Highlands Ranch High School Teacher Named Junior Achievement Educator of the Year
Highlands Ranch High School teacher Bas Wolf has been named the Junior Achievement-Rocky Mountain Educator of the Year. Bas will be formally recognized by Junior Achievement on October 4th and at the DCSD Board of Education meeting on October 10th. Way to go Bas!  Read more. >>

Rock Canyon HS Principal Shares about Hiring and Compensation Challenges

Andy Abner has been the principal of Rock Canyon High School in Highlands Ranch for 13 years. In a recent 7News interview, he shared that it’s never been harder to hire good teachers. “When we posted a job when I started here, we might have 40 applicants that were qualified for the position. Now we're lucky if we get one or two,” Abner said. Watch the interview. >>

Long Range Planning Committee Seeks Members

The DCSD Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC) is seeking members, specifically parents/guardians in the Castle Rock and Parker regions. They are also looking for parents/guardians of charter school students to serve on this important committee. The LRPC plays a crucial role in advising the Board of Education on matters related to population trends, facility usage, school attendance boundaries, and much more. Your expertise and insights will help shape the future of our schools and facilities while serving as a vital link between our community and the Board of Education. Click here to apply. Join the Equity Advisory Council

DCSD is seeking parents, students, and community members with a variety of backgrounds and expertise to serve on the Equity Advisory Council. Per Policies ADB and ADB-R:


The Equity Advisory Council meets monthly throughout the school year. The EAC is currently looking for a variety of community members to serve on the EAC, including: 


  • Parents/Guardians from Castle Rock and Parker region schools.

  • Parents/Guardians from DCSD alternative education and charter schools.

  • School level staff from DCSD neighborhood and charter schools

  • Secondary level student from Highlands Ranch region schools.

  • Secondary level student from DCSD alternative education and charter schools.

NOTICE OF DESTRUCTION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION RECORDS

Special Education records which have been collected by Douglas County School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of special education in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for the period of five (5) years after special education services have ended for the student. Special education services end when the student is no longer eligible for services, graduates, or completes his/her educational program at age 21, or moves from the district. This notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of Douglas County School District's intent to destroy the special education records of students who exited special education services as of June 30, 2016. These records will be destroyed in accordance with state law unless the parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student notifies the school district otherwise. After five years, the records are no longer useful to the district, but may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student in applying for social security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance, etc. The parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student may request a copy of the records by requesting the records at this link ( Douglas County School District Transcripts and Records Requests ).
