Five DCSD Graduates Named Boettcher Scholars

More than 1,900 Colorado students applied for the prestigious Boettcher Foundation Scholarship this year,  with 50 being named recipients. The Douglas County School District (DCSD) is proud to congratulate five graduates for earning this prestigious scholarship that aims to retain Colorado’s inspiring high school graduates within the state for their college education.

  • Maanasi Gowda, Mountain Vista High, plans to attend DU
  • Chloe Johnson, Douglas County High, plans to attend Colorado College
  • Laura Pulido, Highlands Ranch High, plans to attend CU Boulder
  • Nandha Vivek, Legend High, plans to attend CU Boulder
  • Lauren Watts, Mountain Vista High, plans to attend CSU

As Boettcher scholars, each of these students will receive an $80,000 scholarship award across four years, along with institutional, merit and/or need-based aid from their respective campuses. As a comprehensive scholarship, the Boettcher award also includes a program and support system designed to help Scholars maximize their academic and leadership capabilities. Scholars are selected based on academics, service, leadership and character.

DCSD Seniors Selected for Prestigious Scholarship

DCSD seniors are well on their way to college with a prestigious scholarship paving the way.

Six DCSD students are recipients of the Daniels Fund Scholarship. Recipients may use their scholarship at any accredited nonprofit college or university anywhere in the United States. Daniels Scholars have their full cost of attendance covered at partner schools in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming, and up to $100,000 over four years if they choose to attend a school outside the four-state region. Students are selected for their strength of character, leadership potential, commitment to serving the community, and academic potential.

DCSD Congratulates National Merit Corporate Scholarship Winner

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation released the names of the first group of winners in the 69th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Only nine students in Colorado are being recognized for their educational excellence with corporate-sponsored awards - with one of those coming from the Douglas County School District.

Congratulations to outstanding DCSD scholar Mae Webster, who plans to study law. Mae attends Highlands Ranch High School.

Mae is the recipient of a National Merit corporate-sponsored award. Corporate sponsors provide scholarships for students who are children of their employees, who are residents of communities the company serves, or who plan to pursue college majors or careers the sponsor wishes to encourage. Most of these awards are renewable for up to four years of college undergraduate study and provide annual stipends ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 per year. Some provide a single payment between $2,500 and $5,000.

DCSD Home to National Merit $2,500 Winners

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation released the names of winners in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program, including four from the Douglas County School District.

Congratulations to these outstanding DCSD scholars:

  • Cathryn Church from Mountain Vista High plans to study law
  • Alicia Tan from Rock Canyon High will pursue engineering
  • Vinisha Tripathi from Mountain Vista High plans to study medicine
  • Payton Tereick from Highlands Ranch High will pursue neurosurgery

These four outstanding DCSD students are the recipients of a National Merit $2,500 scholarship, selected from a talent pool of more than 15,000 finalists. These recipients have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Recipients of the National Merit college-sponsored scholarships will be announced in June and July.

DCSD Celebrates National Merit College-Sponsored Scholarship Winners

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation released today the names of the third group of winners in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the National Merit finalists who plan to attend their institution. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

Congratulations to the following DCSD students:

  • Nathan Kim, Rock Canyon High School - plans to study business administration at the University of Southern California
  • Samantha Conca, Mountain Vista High School - plans to study computer science at Colorado State University
  • Liliana Smith, Mountain Vista High School - plans to study mathematics at the University of South Florida
  • Annie Gao, Rock Canyon High School - plans to study computer science at the University of Southern California
  • Morgan Underwood, Legend High School - plans to study engineering at the University of Alabama

Recipients of the second and final round of National Merit college-sponsored awards will be announced on July 15.

DCSD Perseverance Scholarship

The Douglas County School District's Perseverance Scholarship has awarded over $276,000 in scholarships to nearly 200 seniors since 1988. Financial need and academic merit are key criteria used in selecting scholarship recipients. In addition, students who are awarded this scholarship have often overcome personal challenges. These students show grit, determination, and resiliency, and need financial assistance to continue their education after graduation from a DCSD school.

NOTICE OF DESTRUCTION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION RECORDS

Special Education records which have been collected by Douglas County School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of special education in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for the period of five (5) years after special education services have ended for the student. Special education services end when the student is no longer eligible for services, graduates, or completes his/her educational program at age 21, or moves from the district. This notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of Douglas County School District's intent to destroy the special education records of students who exited special education services as of June 30, 2016. These records will be destroyed in accordance with state law unless the parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student notifies the school district otherwise. After five years, the records are no longer useful to the district, but may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student in applying for social security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance, etc. The parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student may request a copy of the records by requesting the records at this link ( Douglas County School District Transcripts and Records Requests ).
